The number of high-speed weighing installations on our roads and motorways is increasing. These are used to detect overloaded vehicles which can potentially present a safety risk and cause damage to infrastructure. 

Currently, carriers receive very high penalties for overloading vehicles, especially for overloading the rear axle of a trailer. Many times this is due to inappropriate load distribution on the trailer surface or inappropriate stacking. In some cases, the actual weight of the goods does not even correspond to the data entered on the CMR consignment note.

Carriers are currently trying to adjust the tolerances of the weighing scales so that everything complies with the legislation in force, while ensuring that the scales in question are correctly calibrated so that any penalties are fair. 

In Germany, similar penalties during inspections by the German police make both the sender and the carrier liable – 50/50 (according to the CMR data sheet). Therefore, we recommend that the above mentioned revision of the regulation is also consulted with the carrier and that it is ensured that the driver of the specific vehicle is always able to be present at the loading and actively influence the process, especially with regard to the overloading of the rear axle of the trailor.
