Overview of road toll changes for 2025

As we approach 2025, several European countries are introducing new changes to their tolling systems that will significantly affect transport costs across regions. We provide an overview of the upcoming changes below:

Poland
Starting from January 1, 2025, toll rates in Poland have increased by around 3.3%, which means an additional cost of around €0.46 for every 100 km.

Hungary
In Hungary, the infrastructure fee will rise by 3.4%, while other tariff components will remain unchanged. This results in an average total tariff increase of about 2.5%.

Switzerland
Switzerland has introduced a 5% increase in toll tariffs from January 1, 2025. This adjustment is intended to ensure sufficient funds for the maintenance and modernization of the road infrastructure.

Austria
Austria's road tolls will be adjusted according to inflation, with an expected indexation of approximately 7.4%. While the air and noise charges will remain unchanged, the CO2 tariff element will see an increase.

Belgium
The Wallonia Region in Belgium will adjust its tariffs for inflation, with an average index adjustment of 2.86%. More details can be found here.

Denmark
Denmark has switched from the current vignette system to a new distance-based toll model from January 1, 2025. The new system takes into account not only the number of kilometers driven but also the CO2 emission class of the vehicle.

Italy, Spain, and Portugal
Increases in road tolls are expected in Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Detailed information will be available later. Notably, in Spain, the toll road connecting Spain with Portugal will be free starting January 1, 2025. However, some major Portuguese motorways will see toll price increases.

France
France will increase its road toll tariffs from February 1, 2025. The exact percentage increase is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to be significant.

Czech Republic
From January 1, 2025, toll rates for trucks in the Czech Republic have been increased, in particular for the CO2 emission class charge, up to a maximum of 5% from current levels. The rates for M2 and M3 vehicles, as well as for vehicles powered exclusively by electricity or hydrogen, will remain unchanged.

These measures reflect national efforts to adapt to new environmental and economic conditions, with a focus on sustainability and modernization of road infrastructure. Carriers should take these changes into consideration when planning their transport.
